A new forestry can change the world<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

Forest management design plays a central role in a sustainable future. The potential is enormous: the forest can store more than half of all human-generated carbon emissions. In addition, profitability is good and biological diversity is valued and safeguarded<\/span>.<\/b> Transitioning to Ecosystem-Based Forestry, also known as EcoForestry, in combination with reduced consumption, is one of the most powerful climate initiatives we can take.<\/span><\/p>\n

The forest, and thus the forest management design, is an essential part of the solution to several of the issues we face today, including climate change, loss of biodiversity, and problems with water management.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Forests have an enormous capacity to capture carbon dioxide and convert it into carbon, stored in the form of trees. With EcoForestry, some of<\/span> the largest trees are harvested in such a way that the biodiverse<\/span> forest ecosystem is respected at all times. It is a win-win situation for climate, nature, and timber production.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Trees breathe in carbon dioxide, storing carbon and breathing out oxygen.\u00a0 Living forests around the world have an ongoing process of inhalation, exhalation, decay, and regeneration that spans 300-3,000 years, with all parts of the cycle represented: young saplings, adolescent trees, mature trees that are hundreds of years old, and decaying dead wood on the forest floor.\u00a0 Medium-aged to old-growth trees sequester the most carbon as they grow.\u00a0 When a forest is clear-cut, the cycle is disrupted: there is<\/span> no <\/b>inhalation of carbon dioxide, only the decay and hence the exhalation of carbon into the atmosphere.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When trees are harvested only intermittently, with minimal interference to the surrounding forest, we are able to protect the forest ecosystem while maintaining continuous cover and protecting biodiversity. This method of selective harvesting is critical to forest management design practices as they do not disrupt the forest ecosystem as a whole.\u00a0 This method is known as Minimum Interference.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
